Lifestyle Goals and Your Hormonal Health

Simple things like exercise, diet, and sleep have a huge impact on your hormonal health. They also play a role in achieving pregnancy. If you are trying to get pregnant, there are some simple, practical lifestyle choices you can make each day that will help you take care of your body and support ovulation.

Here’s a few:

Exercise: Take the time to exercise each day. If you don’t have a regular exercise plan, schedule in 20 minutes each day for a walk. Fat cells produce extra estrogen, which can create imbalance in your cycle. Regular exercise is essential for a healthy ovulation

Lifestyle goal: 20-minute walk every day

Self-care means understanding your cycle.

Rest: Eight hours of sleep is necessary for most women to produce healthy hormones and achieve a good cycle. Sleep is the time when your hormones rejuvenate and repair, which is necessary for a strong ovulation. Do your best to make a health sleep schedule a priority.

Lifestyle goal: 8 hours of sleep every night

Nutrition: Leafy greens, fresh vegetables, and fresh fruits are the building blocks for healthy hormones. Extra protein helps your body generate a stronger ovulation, too.

Hormonal imbalances are often the underlying cause of symptoms.

Hydration: Hydrating well impacts your cycle. Drink lots of water and herbal teas and try to minimize your caffeine and alcohol intake. Alcohol might feel like it loosens things up and reduces stress, but it actually acts as a stress on your hormones and system.

Lifestyle goal: 2 liters of water every day

Vitamins: Low vitamin D is often linked to subfertility in both women and men. Unless you’re on the beach and able to get some strong sunshine every day, consider taking a vitamin D supplement. Be sure to also take prenatal vitamins, which are important sources of folic acid.

Stress: Stress can negatively impact your cycle, so do your best to avoid it as much as possible. What gives you joy? Do more of it. Joy and happiness release dopamine and other hormones that are essential to an ovulatory cycle!

Lifestyle goal: do one thing that makes you joyful every day
