FEMM is proud to announce the addition of Shiho Yoshida as part of its education team in Japan.

Shiho Yoshida is a 24-year-old from Kanagawa, Japan. She recently certified as a FEMM teacher, teaching all of her practice clients in Japanese. She moved to Vancouver, Canada to attend high school in 2016. She moved to Seattle, Washington in 2019 and studied molecular, cellular, and developmental biology at the University of Washington. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, travelling, and exploring coffee shops. She hopes to teach FEMM to Japanese women online, increase women’s health awareness, and fill the gaps in reproductive health and education in Japan.

Why did you choose to become a FEMM Teacher to serve Japanese women?

I have a passion for women’s health and education and was looking for certification. I wanted to get certified quickly and start teaching immediately. I chose FEMM because it’s affordable, short-term compared to other programs, and science-based.

Is there a gap in your country that you will be filling by being a certified FEMM teacher who can teach in Japanese?

Compared to other developed nations, Japan’s reproductive health education is very behind. Most women are not aware of how their bodies work during cycles. Even though it has gotten better in recent years, topics like sex and reproductive health have often been considered “taboo” to talk about. I’m hoping to spread the knowledge I learned through FEMM, help them be more aware of their bodies, and actively participate in healthcare and sex education.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background and why this made you want to be a FEMM teacher.

I struggled with amenorrhea due to anorexia when I was in middle school. In college, I struggled with the side effects of birth control pills. In addition to my own experiences, I have a few family members who struggled with infertility and miscarriages. I developed my interest in reproductive health, particularly women’s. I was looking for a women’s health certification program and found FEMM through an online search. FEMM is a natural, yet science-based approach and is exactly what I was looking for!

What do you find interesting about FEMM and how it relates to women’s health and the science of women’s health?

I found it interesting how our body responds throughout the cycle and produces different types of mucus. The research was done a few decades ago, but these facts are not known by many! Many individuals will benefit from FEMM education and I hope that in the future more research will be conducted.

What do you plan to do for Japanese women with FEMM Education?

My plan is to teach FEMM to Japanese women online and help increase women’s health awareness. I also plan to translate the FEMM app into Japanese, which is very exciting!

FEMM is incredibly excited to work with Shiho Yoshida and looks forward to spreading awareness of women’s health across Japan.
