Core Lesson Plan
In Grade 10, students have the opportunity to deepen their understanding and awareness of human dignity as the foundation for human rights. Victor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning, and other texts, help students recognize that the intrinsic nature of human dignity remains inalienable even in the most difficult circumstances. The Grade 10 curriculum builds upon the Grade 9 lessons on the Power to Think and Choose, as students learn to critically examine the use of propaganda for ideological ends. In the lesson on Friendship and Solidarity, students learn about Sophie Scholl and other young members of the White Rose movement who fought against the terrible injustices of the Nazi regime. From the political to the personal, the grade culminates in a lesson on personal mission, helping students to identify concrete ways that they can develop habits of meaning and purpose in their everyday life.
